It's September and many of you have already heard an earful with my many stories about the Getty Villa. I'm lucky enough to live in driving distance of this great educational center- so when I can I trek up to the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, California.
Located right by the Pacific Ocean is the only museum and educational center in North America dedicated solely to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Click below to see a small slide show with images from the Getty Villa. Next you can access a 12 minute film that reveals J. Paul Getty's vision for the Villa and the Museum's collection as well as the ancient sources that influenced the site's design here.
Every visit I make to the Getty is a completely fascinating Greco-Roman experience -inside and out. Now you can experience the Getty right from where ever you are. First the four videos below a then UCLA professor Bernard Frischer share a look at the Getty before it reopened in 2006. Note this is the same professor who is now the director of the 3-D digital model of Ancient Rome called the University of Virginia's Rome Reborn project.
Note my post about that project as well.
